The Gliwice-Sośnica motorway junction ( Polish : Węzeł autostradowy Gliwice-Sośnica ) is located south of the Polish city of Gliwice ( German : Gleiwitz ) in the Silesian Voivodeship . It connects the Polish motorways A1 and A4 as well as the national road 44 and is currently the largest motorway junction in Poland .
history
In October 2005 it was decided to locate the entire stretch of the A1 motorway and the motorway junction in the Silesian Voivodeship . Before that, however, a temporary junction was opened under the name Sośnica , which made it possible to exit the newly opened section of the A4 motorway to national road 44 . Then the planning of the A1 autobahn and a three-story junction with no elevation began . On May 30, 2008, the construction contract between GDDKiA and the Greek construction company J&P Avax was signed. In addition to the construction of the motorway junction, which is made up of 17 connecting ramps and 16 bridge structures, the construction of a 2.2 km long and six-lane section of the A1, the six-lane expansion of the A4 and the four-lane expansion of state road 44 over a length of 2.2 Kilometers decided. The construction costs were set at 853 million złoty . Completion was planned for October 2009. With the completion of the section of the A1 to Rybnik , the node was opened on December 23, 2009. All construction work was only finished in July 2010 with the opening of the tunnel along Landesstrasse 44.
