Autoceļš A9 is a "State Main Road" ( lett . Valsts galvenie A utoceļi ) belonging to Latvia's state roads . It connects the capital Riga with Skulte and the third largest city in the country Liepāja . In the further course it will be marked as A11 . The total length of the A9 is 200 kilometers. The average traffic volume was 4,939 vehicles per day in 2010.

In 2011, the A9 was expanded with one lane and two lanes on the entire route . Thus the maximum speed was set at 90 km / h. In the period from 2011 to 2013, the A9 was modernized on one section. This section comprised kilometers 1 to 23. By 2014 [obsolete] , the modernization of the section from 79th to 98th kilometers should be completed.

According to the plans, the A9 is to be modernized on the three other sections in the period from 2014 [obsolete] to 2020. Among other things, the road between kilometers 38 and 60 and between 149 and 163 is to be modernized.
