Autoceļš A6 is one of Latvia's state highways "State Main Road" ( lett . Valsts galvenie A utoceļi ). It connects the capital Riga with the Belarusian border at Pāternieki and merges there with the P20 . The A6 is part of the European roads 22 and 262 . The road also serves as a northern bypass for Daugavpils and runs through Krāslava . The total length is 307 kilometers.
Between Riga and Ogre as well as Nīcgale and Daugavpils, the road has two lanes and two lanes per lane. The other sections have a total of only one lane with two lanes. The maximum speed is set at 90 km / h in winter, but at 100 km / h in summer on the four-lane sections. The average traffic volume was 8036 vehicles per day in 2013.
Construction and planning
Since 2008, the A6 has been partially rebuilt free of intersections. The new line is intended to replace the Salaspils − Koknese section. Construction of the first section had already begun in the 1980s, but construction and planning were later discontinued. The first phase of construction begins in Tīnuži and ends in Koknese. Due to problems, it was not completed as originally planned in 2012, but only in 2013 and initially numbered as P80. The second construction phase envisages the four-lane, motorway-like extension of the section between Tīnuži and Koknese and should take place from 2017 to 2021. Plans call for the expressway to be extended to Riga between 2020 and 2027 . It should also have a highway-like cross-section of the road . There are also plans to run the new line in an easterly direction parallel to the previous A6 to Pļaviņas .
