The Avenida 20 de Maio is a main street of the East Timorese capital Dili , which runs south of the center through the administrative offices of Vera Cruz and Nain Feto . It has a length of about 2.6 kilometers.

Surname

During the colonial era, the street was named Rua Jacinto Cândido , after the Portuguese overseas minister Jacinto Cândido . The western section up to Avenida Mártires da Pátria (then Estrada de Balide ) was called Rua Dom Luís dos Reis Noronha , after Luís dos Reis Noronha , the Liurai of Laclo (before 1912-1935) and the eastern section from Rua de Bemori (then Rua Belarmino Lobo ) Rua Cidade de Viana do Castelo named after the Portuguese city . The current name refers to the date of East Timor's independence , May 20, 2002.

From the front of Dili Cathedral , Avenida 20 de Maio leads east and forms the border between Suco Colmera in the north and Vila Verde in the south. After Avenida Mártires da Pátria , in the south, lies Suco Caicoli . On the Colmera side is the seat of the Comissão Nacional de Eleições . At the intersection with Rua de Moçambique on the northwest corner is the East Timorese Ministry of Justice. From Rua de Moçambique , the north side of Avenida 20 de Maio also belongs to Suco Caicoli. The site belongs to the Universidade Nasionál Timór Lorosa'e (UNTL), on the south side is the headquarters of the National Police of East Timor (PNTL). Further to the east, the Avenida Xavier do Amaral , behind which the administrative office of Nain Feto begins, crosses with the Suco Gricenfor on the north side and the Suco Santa Cruz on the south side. Rua de Bé Fonte comes from the north . At the northeast corner is the Kampo Demokrasia football field of the Xanana Gusmão Sports Center . Compared to the ends Rua Santa Cruz in the 20 de Maio Avenue , then cross the Rua de Audian and the Rua de Bemori . After the last, Avenida 20 de Maio leads through Suco Acadiru Hun . Eventually it meets the Avenida Dom Martinho Lopes , which runs parallel to the Mota Bidau river . The Avenida 20 de Maio ends here, opposite the Hospital Nacional Guido Valadares .
