The first historical mention as "Rumenthorp" comes from the year 941. In the Middle Ages the settlement belonged to the Kölngau and in its later time came to the office of Brühl in the Electorate of Cologne as Rondorf . In 1794 French revolutionary troops occupied the place. In the Napoleonic era, Mairie Rondorf of the same name was named after the place in its center and belonged to the canton of Brühl in the Cologne arrondissement of the Département de la Roer . In 1815 the mayor's office in Rondorf in the Cologne district was created . 1888 places Bayenthal, Klettenberg, Marienburg, Raderberg, Raderthal and ruler were spun off from the community Rondorf and in the city of Cologne incorporated . The places Godorf , Immendorf , Meschenich , Rodenkirchen , Rondorf, Sürth and Weiß remained in the community .

The Johannishof is one of the oldest farmsteads in the area

In 1961 the community of Rondorf was renamed "Gemeinde Rodenkirchen" and in 1975 it was incorporated into Cologne. Much of the development comes from the 1930s and the post-war period.

Catholic Church

Former Dreikönigskirche with an attached tower

The “Heilige Drei Könige” church, built in 1900 in neo-Gothic style, expanded by a tower in 1957, is no longer used as a place of worship. It was profaned in 1987 and converted into an architecture office. While the nave is not only used as an office, but also as an exhibition space and concert hall, the architects live with their families in the tower of the former church.

The old church was replaced in 1987-89 by the new parish church of the Holy Three Kings .

Clubs / leisure time

The SC Rondorf 1912 e. V. is the local football club. The club was founded in 1912 as "Radsport-Club Rheingold Rondorf" and in 1929 it was converted into Sport-Club Rondorf. The greatest successes are the participation in the game operation in the district league from 1976 to 1980 and the victories in the district cup in 1974 and 1976. SC Rondorf is involved in the youth field.

Every year a tournament is held under the motto "All of Rondorf plays football", in which various hobby teams from Rondorf and the surrounding area compete against each other.

The Chessfreunde Köln-Süd are known beyond the city limits.

Schools and kindergartens

With the Anne Frank School, Rondorf has a publicly funded primary school named after Anne Frank . Since the 2011/12 school year, 245 childcare places have been offered as part of the open all-day program. In addition to the support association and the school caretaker, there is also a pupil parliament in which the pupils of the Anne Frank School can actively participate in shaping their school life. Secondary schools are in neighboring districts. At Husarenstr. 20 St. George's School has a location.

For children of pre-school age, there are four facilities available for childcare: the integrative municipal day care center for children, the Adlerstrasse day care center, the Catholic day care center Hl. Drei Könige and the HdF-Pünktchen day care center (only U3).
