history
The place name Raderthal arose from the place name of the same name, which describes the valley adjoining the Raderberg - a former river bed of the Rhine.
The field name Raderthal already existed in the 13th century and was mentioned in the Cologne shrine books . In contrast, the place Raderthal was first mentioned in the death register of the Catholic parish church in Immendorf in 1838. Since the Middle Ages, this area has been cultivated by farmers who lived in the parish of St. Severin and who joined together in 1384 to form Farmer's Bank Severin . With industrialization in the 19th century, however, they gave up their farms and settled outside Cologne. In the Middle Ages and in the early modern period there were five farmers' benches in front of the Cologne city gates. During the first half of the 19th century, settlement in Raderthal began on Hitzelerstrasse, Brühler Strasse and Raderthaler Strasse. In the late 19th century, craft and industrial businesses followed. Politically, Raderthal has belonged to the municipality of Rondorf in the Cologne district since its foundation in the early 19th century and was incorporated into Cologne in 1888. At the beginning of the 20th century, housing developments were built.
Finally, the non-profit building cooperative of the municipal railway employees eGmbH built the houses on Markusstrasse in the 1920s.
From 1927 to 1932 the transmitter Köln-Raderthal was in Raderthal .
After the Second World War was on the site of the former People's Park , the municipal People's Park also built English settlement which are sold under today monument stands. Mostly English and Belgian occupation soldiers lived there . However, over the years they cleared their houses, most of which were occupied by German officers. Today the settlement impresses with wide streets and old trees throughout. Almost all houses in the English settlement have now been sold on the free housing market by the federal government. The target group were families with children, so that the population structure has changed fundamentally since 2000.
This is also the case in the rest of Raderthal, which is in the middle of a generation change. In addition to many long-established Raderthal seniors and families, numerous young families move in, who appreciate the proximity to the city center on the one hand and the direct connection to the green belt and urban forest.
