The nature reserve Bürgewald Steinheide is located in the area of the towns of Elsdorf and Kerpen in the Rhein-Erft district in North Rhine-Westphalia .
The area extends northwest of the core city of Kerpen and east of Manheim , a district of Kerpen. The A 4 runs to the south- east, while the B 477 runs to the north and east . The 287.08 hectare nature reserve Bürgewald Dickbusch and Lörsfelder Busch extends to the east .

For Elsdorf and Kerpen an area of 192.11 hectares has been designated as a nature reserve under the identification number BM-028 since 1993 . The protection is placed for the preservation and restoration of communities and biotopes of certain wild animal and plant species.
