The Bundeshandelsakademie und Bundeshandelsschule Wien 22 (also business.academy.donaustadt , also BHAK Wien 22 ), short form: BHAK and BHAS Wien 22, is a commercial vocational middle and higher school ( BMHS ) in Polgarstrasse 24 in the 22nd district of Vienna , Donaustadt . It is at the same address next to the Polgargymnasium.

history

Originally, the BHAK and BHAS Vienna 22 were housed in a building at Stadlauer Straße 51 in the Stadlau district, which used to be a primary school. The school started operations on September 6, 1976 with around 120 students, 8 teachers and 4 classes under the direction of Gustav Ulreich and on October 5, 1976 the school was established as a branch of the BHAK Vienna 10 .

On November 18, the building was handed over to the federal government by the City of Vienna.

The exposure under Gustav Ulreich ended on January 1st, 1978, and on March 1st, the previous director was appointed director of the now independent school with the new name of the Federal Commercial Academy and Federal Commercial School Vienna 22nd .

In 1978, construction work began on a new school center at Polgarstrasse 24, which, after four years of construction, was handed over to the then Minister of Education, Fred Sinowatz , on October 6, 1982 . Two different schools moved into the new school building: The Polgargymnasium and the HAK classes of the BHAK and BHAS Vienna 22.

From September 1, 1994, new curricula relating to environmental issues came into force for all commercial academies and commercial schools in Austria. In the BHAK Vienna 22, the new training focus on ecologically oriented corporate management is introduced. This year the BHAK Wien 22 won first prize in an environmental competition organized by UTEC-ABSORGA. In addition, the school management model for environmental staff units was developed and the Environment and School Partnership Agreement was concluded with Bank Austria .

On 11 September 1995 Director Ulreich from the Deputy Mayor was Grete Laska , the Decoration of Honor for Services to the Province of Vienna awarded.

In 1999 the school got a new name: business.academy.donaustadt

In 2011, the expansion began at Polgarstraße 24 with an extension, while the existing school building was being renovated. In the planning of the new room concept, such as learning islands and outdoor areas, suggestions from students and teachers were used and implemented.

In 2013 the new building of the business.academy.donaustadt was officially opened by the Minister of Education Claudia Schmied and the President of the City School Council (now Education Directorate for Vienna ) Susanne Brandsteidl .

On March 16, 2020, all schools across Austria were closed for teaching in connection with the lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic in accordance with Section 18 of the Epidemic Act. The students at business.academy.donaustadt received learning and practice materials, the teachers could be reached via home office, while the administrative staff present was largely reduced. According to the ordinance of Federal Minister Heinz Faßmann on April 24th, lessons in the business.academy.donaustadt started again on May 4th - taking all hygiene measures into account - with eight Matura classes (six HAK, two AUL).

The architecture office Silbermayr won the tender for an extension in 2009, whereby the school's proposals were also included in the planning process. The building owner and client was the Bundesimmobiliengesellschaft mbH (BIG). The extension was built by Strabag and after 15 months of construction, on November 14, 2012, the business.academy.donaustadt was able to move into the new school section.

The newly built extension is star-shaped, with the classrooms being located in the honeycomb-like ends (learning islands). The open spaces of the learning islands are used for breaks, learning or project work.

The business.academy.donaustadt consists of two parts of the building which are connected to each other on each floor via a side glazed connecting ramp: the separated area of the older school building - called brick building because of the brick wall visible on the aisle side - and the new building.
