Babken Melkonyan ( Armenian : Բաբկեն Մելքոնյան; born March 4, 1980 in Yerevan , Armenia ) is an Armenian pool and snooker player living in Romania .

Career

In June 2006 Babken Melkonyan took part in the European Snooker Championship for the first time, but was eliminated in the preliminary round. In 2010 he became Romanian snooker master. At the 2010 Snooker European Championship in Bucharest , however, he was eliminated in the preliminary round. In November 2013 he managed to move into the finals of a Euro Tour tournament for the first time at the Castel Brando Open , in which he lost to David Alcaide in the round of sixteen .

At the 2014 Pool Billiards European Championship , Melkonyan came 97th in 9-ball . A few days later he reached the sixteenth finals of the North Cyprus Open and was defeated there by the Dutchman Ivo Aarts . In June 2014 Melkonyan took part in a world championship for the first time; However, he was eliminated in the preliminary round at the 9-Ball World Cup . At the Dutch Open 2014 he reached the round of 16 and was defeated by Mieszko Fortuński from Poland . In February 2015 Melkonyan was eliminated from the preliminary round of the 10-Ball World Cup without a win. In June 2015 he made it to the round of 16 of the German Open .

In 2015 , Melkonyan and Ioan Ladanyi formed the Romanian team that was taking part in the World Cup of Pool for the first time. After victories against China and Indonesia, they were eliminated in the quarter-finals by defending champions Darren Appleton and Karl Boyes from England.
