Location of Bad Reiboldsgrün in Saxony

Bad Reiboldsgrün has been part of the city of Auerbach / Vogtl since 1994 . Before that, the building group belonged to the Schnarrtanne community . The sanatoriums in Bad Reiboldsgrün and the settlements of Albertsberg and Carolagrün in the east of it, also in the middle of the Ore Mountains-Vogtland forests, formed an important center for the healing of people with lung diseases, especially those with tuberculosis, in Saxony until the 1960s .

Geographical location

Between Auerbach and Schönheide were the lung healing facilities Reiboldsgrün, Albertsberg and Carolagrün

Reiboldsgrün (680 meters) is geographically in the Western Ore Mountains , but politically it is already in the Vogtland , because not far from the place ran the border between the Ore Mountains and the Vogtland districts of the Electorate of Saxony . Today the Erzgebirgskreis begins just east of Bad Reiboldsgrün .

history

Former hospital in Bad Reiboldsgrün (2006)

The place takes its name after the chief forester Hans von Reibold auf Rößnitz , who bought an undeveloped forest fief in 1705 to build a forester's house there. After the discovery of a mineral spring in 1725 when a drainage ditch was being drawn by the forest clerk Friedrich Georg Schulze, a "modest bathing establishment" came into being, which came to a standstill as early as 1825.

Johann Christian August Clarus and Justus Wilhelm Martin Radius write contributions to practical medicine in their work in 1836, which became the source

Often used internally and externally, especially as a strengthening bath against gout and rheumatic complaints. The bath house built earlier is completely dilapidated and the well poorly set so that wild water can freely enter. At present, the Reiboldsgrün forest estate, which belongs to the Voigtsberg office, is bathed and the bathing water is carried there; actual spa guests are not permanently present there. The water tastes like an ink, is slightly salty, is low in carbon dioxide and is mainly used as a fortifying bath. The area is not bad, but the view is very limited through the woods.

From 1873 a lung sanatorium was created on the site, for which numerous buildings were erected, such as for treatment, food and accommodation for patients, laundry, energy generation and a doctor's residence. Even poultry, pigs and dairy cattle were kept. From 1918 on, the Sächsische Heilstättenverein operated the approximately 66 hectare facility. According to the postmark, the place name "Bad Reiboldsgrün" was only given after the First World War. During the Second World War it was predominantly used as a hospital . After the number of tuberculosis sufferers fell, the premises were used as a specialist hospital for child and adolescent neuropsychiatry from 1966 onwards and were converted and expanded for this purpose. After he moved out at the end of the 1990s, most of the spa buildings are empty and they are in danger of decay.

Mineral spring

The water from the mineral spring was recaptured in a well house around 1890 and called again "Christiane-Eberhardinen-Brunnen". Christiane Eberhardine was the wife of the Saxon Elector Friedrich August , who was also King of Poland and was referred to there as August II (so-called August the Strong). This name for the spring was already used at the beginning of the 18th century. According to the findings of the balneological research institute in Bad Elster in 1972, the spring water is radioactive and contains iron. It has these components (in milligrams per liter): sodium ion 7.4, potassium ion 1.67, calcium ion 8.01, magnesium ion 0.0, iron (II) ion 28.6, cations 45.68, chloride ion 21.32, Sulfate ion 45.26 and hydrogen carbonate ion 85.43. In the 2000s there are efforts to restore the spring house and socket. After years of non-use and neglect of structural maintenance, they are in a poor condition and in view of the Ore Mountains-Vogtland winters threaten to collapse and decay.

Carlsturm

Not far from Bad Reiboldsgrün is the Carlsturm, which is also referred to as the Karlsturm on maps. In 1881 the Reiboldsgrün doctor Carl Driver donated this tower and named it after his first name. It was built in 1881 on the 734 meter high mountain "Goldene Höhe" to the southwest, is 22 meters high and made of granite and bricks. The covered and glazed viewing platform can be reached via 95 steps. The view from the tower, which used to be very good, is limited due to the tall surrounding trees at the beginning of the 21st century, but it is still rewarding. Information boards and directions in the tower explain the area.
