The train station is on the edge of the Hohenlimburg city center. Directly opposite is the bus station, from where buses run by Hagener Straßenbahn AG and Märkische Verkehrsgesellschaft to the rest of Hagen and also to Iserlohn , Hemer and Nachrodt-Wiblingwerde . There was already a level crossing at the end of the platform, but this has given way to a new bridge.
history
Until well into the 20th century, the station was of great importance for the steel industry in Hohenlimburg. In addition, the narrow-gauge Hohenlimburger Kleinbahn had existed since 1900 , which established a connection between the industrial area in the Nahmertal and the train station. Their operation was stopped at the end of 1983. To the southeast of the platforms was a five-track transfer station, where the standard gauge wagons were loaded onto trolleys on three tracks. Up until a few years ago there was also a freight yard opposite the passenger platform, which has since been demolished. In 2011, the major renovation of the station district began, as a result of which the station building and then the parking garage above the bus station were demolished, and a roundabout was set up to access the station. In addition, a new platform was built in place of the reception building, which enables direct barrier-free access to the bus stop. There is also a covered island platform between tracks 1 and 2, which can be reached via an underpass. The converted station was officially used on August 24, 2012. The construction of the underpass between tracks 1 and 2 and the new construction of platform 2 is also planned for June 2020, as well as the renewal of the track around the station and the renovation of the interlocking and signaling technology as part of the VRR station initiative
To the east of the Lenne there are still several installation tracks for operating the sidings. The Iserlohner Kreisbahn had no connection to the state railway, its route to Letmathe was north of the Lenne, the route to Hagen ended in front of the level crossing of Hohenlimburger Strasse west of the train station.

Regional traffic
The station is currently served by two lines, the regional express 16 ( Ruhr-Sieg-Express ) from Essen to Siegen or Iserlohn and the regional train 91 ( Ruhr-Sieg-Bahn ) from Hagen to Siegen or Iserlohn. Both lines have been operated by Abellio Rail NRW since the end of 2007 , since then the trains have been separated at the nearest Iserlohn-Letmathe station , and the individual parts continue to Iserlohn or Siegen. Hohenlimburg is the last train station belonging to the VRR before the border to the VRL area.
