Nachrodt-Wiblingwerde is a municipality in North Rhine-Westphalia , Germany . It is located in the Sauerland and belongs to the Märkisches Kreis . Large areas on the heights of the Lennegebirge and the narrow valley of the Lenne characterize the municipality. In the early 19th century metalworking companies began to settle in the current municipality. Medium-sized companies in the field of metal processing are still based today. The community was created in 1907 from the merger of the communities Kelleramt (since then called Nachrodt) and Wiblingwerde. The district of Wiblingwerde is a state-approved resort.

Nachrodt-Wiblingwerde is located in the west of the Märkisches Kreis on the north-western edge of the Sauerland . The next big city is the neighboring Hagen , which already belongs to the outskirts of the Ruhr area . The municipal area is characterized by the narrow Lenne valley and the wide open spaces on the heights of the Lenne mountains .

The community emerged from two very different parishes belonging to the office. On the one hand, Nachrodt lies with some districts in the Lenne valley between Altena and Iserlohn - Letmathe , while Wiblingwerde lies on the western ridge of the Lennegebirge between Nachrodt, Hohenlimburg and Lüdenscheid . It describes itself as the "highest church village in the Märkischer Kreis". Nachrodt-Wiblingwerde is the smallest municipality in the district with an area of ​​29 km².

Archaeological finds show that Wiblingwerde was settled in the 9th century. A chapel and a Curtis were founded there, probably at the time of Charlemagne . In Carolingian times, a Curtis had to make regular payments to the royal court to support it.

In the 13th century the Johanneskirche was built in Wiblingwerde, probably as the successor to the old chapel. The village appeared in 1316 in the tax register to the Cologne church, the " liber valoris ecclesiarum Coloniensis deioeccesis ". It belonged to the dean's office in Lüdenscheid.

Count Engelbert II von der Mark lost imperial estates in this area, which King Ludwig the Bavarian gave to Count Dietrich von Kleve on May 22, 1317 as a fief, including the "curtem dictam Web (elg) engwerde".

The first mention of the villages in the Lennetal comes from the year 1423, when the Einsal farm was mentioned, and the Obstfeld farm in 1510.

Haus Nachrodt goes back to around 1600. The largest courtyards in the 17th century were the cellar office estate Opperhusen (occupied from 1662) and Helbecke between Opperhusen and Einsal, which is definitely occupied from 1666. A forerunner "older house Helbecke" is said to have existed as early as 1535. The courtyard, like the surrounding courtyards, was used to supply Altena Castle .

In the years 1663, 1690 and 1703 there were major fires in Wiblingwerde. On December 29, 1709, almost the whole place burned down. The rectory, the roof and the spire of the Wiblingwerder church were also victims of the flames. Therefore, only a few written documents have survived from the time before.

In the early 19th century, metal processing companies began to settle in what is now the municipality, including the Eduard Schmidt Puddel and Rolling Works , which later belonged to the Westfälische Union AG . The station in Nachrodt was opened in 1900.

By royal decree, when the Altena office was dissolved on April 1, 1907, the municipalities of Kelleramt and Wiblingwerde, which were part of the office, became the non-official municipality of Nachrodt-Wiblingwerde.

During the Second World War , from April 1, 1945, the municipality was part of the Ruhr basin enclosed by the Allies . After the Panzer Lehr Division of the Wehrmacht surrendered in Altena on April 15, the area was occupied by the US Army on the same day without a fight .

In contrast to many other municipalities, the municipal reorganization between 1969 and 1975 did not result in any changes to the area in Nachrodt-Wiblingwerde. In August 1984, the district president in Arnsberg awarded the Wiblingwerde district the type of resort . The focus is on redesigned farms.

Incorporations

On April 1, 1907, the formerly independent communities of Kelleramt and Wiblingwerde in the Altena district were dissolved and merged to form the new non-official community of Nachrodt-Wiblingwerde. The cellar office got its new name after Haus Nachrodt . This was followed by partial assignments of the municipal area of ​​0.74 km² to the city of Altena on March 23, 1908, 4.22 km² to the city of Altena, 0.96 km² to the city of Neuenrade and 3.71 km² to the city of Werdohl on April 1st 1936, 8 ha to the city of Altena on April 1, 1937 and 60 ha to the city of Altena on April 1, 1960.

On January 1, 1969, the law for the reorganization of the district of Altena and the independent city of Lüdenscheid came into force, which in Section 3 incorporated some parcels of Nachrodt-Wiblingwerde into the city of Altena . At the same time, the Altena district was dissolved and became part of the district, later the district of Lüdenscheid . 2010

The turnout in Nachrodt-Wiblingwerde was 60.70 percent in the 2010 state election. In the first votes in Nachrodt-Wiblingwerde, the SPD candidate Michael Scheffler landed in first place. Scheffler won the constituency of Märkischer Kreis I , which also includes the community, with 40.6%, replacing the CDU candidate Thorsten Schick as a member of the Düsseldorf state parliament.

Church of St. Josef in Nachrodt

In the district of Nachrodt are the Catholic Church of St. Josef and the Evangelical Church of Nachrodt . The old evangelical reformed village church St. Johannes is located in the district of Wiblingwerde.

Johannisborn

Between Wiblingwerde and Gut Sassenscheid lies the Johannisborn, which is believed to be a healing spring. It is the oldest cultural monument in the community and is dedicated to John the Baptist . Baptisms have been carried out here for centuries and the baptismal water is also brought to the Johanneskirche in Wiblingwerde. In 1954, the spring was set in quarry stones and a stone relief by Fritz Korte was installed showing an early medieval baptism scene.

The Brenscheider mill is remarkable . This originally sovereign ban mill was mentioned as early as 1593. In 1765 it was leased by the Prussian state and sold in 1839. In 1893 the water operation was supported by a steam engine. The mill was operated until 1952 and is now restored and operational. Nearby is an oil mill built in 1845. Due to the poorly weathered base rock, in most of the municipal area, species-poor and species-rich grove rims - red beech forests represent the potentially natural type of vegetation. Although large areas have been replaced by settlements, cultivated land and forests, impressive stands have been preserved, especially on the slopes of the Lennetal. In the small side valleys (Siepen), the beech forests can interlock with oak - hornbeam forests or black alder - gallery forests, depending on the microclimate and soil moisture .

The large heather areas, which at the beginning of the 20th century covered many hectares of the Wiblingwerder height area, have completely disappeared. As a natural monument , the juniper population on the Lohhagen alone testifies to this historical cultural landscape. It was placed under protection as early as the 1930s through the mediation of the then Landscape Agency for Nature Conservation Altena-Lüdenscheid. Today it is surrounded by an impressive oak forest with a high proportion of holly , which forms an important local recreation area with a forest nature trail . In 2010 there were over 30 guided tours on the grounds of this forest nature trail. The district of Wiblingwerde can, after the amendment of the health resort law and the review in 2011, continue to call itself a “state-approved resort”. The grassland in the Lennetal and on the heights around Wiblingwerde shows elements of the smooth oat meadows in places , but is often impoverished in species due to the high nitrogen input, albeit more vigorous than in the Münsterland, for example, due to the high rainfall .

Nahmertal

Due to the varied structure of the cultural landscape that is rich in cover, both open land and forest-dwelling breeding bird species can be found in Nachrodt-Wiblingwerde. Christmas tree plantations are populated by Goldammer and Fitis . Four species of woodpecker predominantly inhabit the high forests on the slopes of the Lenne Valley. Woodcock and black stork can be seen with luck in the creek cuttings in the eastern area of ​​the Wiblingwerder plateau between Oevenscheid, Sassenscheid, Hallenscheid to Nordhelle.

In Lennetal breed among other kingfisher , gray wagtail and dippers . The Lenne is currently (October 2009) in the Einsal area only slightly organically polluted. This shows, among other things, the appearance of the river flea shrimp and the blue-winged demoiselle .

A regularly recurring event since 1984 has been the Mühlenbacktag with a small country market, which opens the summer season at the Brenscheider Kornmühle. From May to October there are baking demonstrations in the mill every first Saturday of the month. On May 1st of each year, a maypole in the shape of a birch tree decorated with colorful ribbons is set up on the village square of Wiblingwerde . The event ends with an afternoon coffee in the home parlor. Since 1990, the local heritage association in the district of Wiblingwerde has been holding the harvest festival on the first Sunday in October with freshly harvested fruits from the field, food, drinks and stalls selling agricultural products. The economic structure differs significantly in the municipality. Especially in the Lennetal around Nachrodt there is a mostly medium-sized manufacturing industry, especially in the field of metal processing. In contrast, there is comparatively little business in Wiblingswerde. In some localities agriculture also plays a certain role. In 2002 there were 1112 employees subject to social security contributions in the municipality. Of these, 575 were employed in the manufacturing industry, 168 in the private service sector, 96 in construction and 95 in trade.

The B 236 runs through the Lennetal for a length of 6.3 km in the municipality. The next motorway connection is Iserlohn - Oestrich on the A 46 (approx. 5 km). The state road L 692 leads over 9.5 km from Nachrodt via Wiblingwerde towards Lüdenscheid .

Local public transport today is mainly carried out by the Märkische Verkehrsgesellschaft (MVG) and the Nachrodt-Wiblingwerde community bus . However, there is also a connection to Hagen Hohenlimburg Bf. With bus line 539, which is the only one that can be used with tickets from the VRR , the VRL tariff applies on the other lines . There are three general education schools . In Nachrodt and in Wiblingwerde there is a primary school with a total of 291 pupils. Nachrodt also has a secondary school with 146 students (as of October 15, 2007).

In the area of ​​adult education, the community is a member of the “Volkshochschule Lennetal” association. There is also a city ​​library .
