The Stühlingen train station is the train station in the small town of Stühlingen in the Waldshut district , right on the border between Germany and Switzerland . The station is located at kilometer 17.4 of the of Lauchringen about Stühlingen and Blumberg after Immendingen leading Wutachtalbahn . Today, feeder trains to the museum railway starting in neighboring Weizen via Stühlingen only run in the summer half of the year .

history

In 1875, Stühlingen received a railway connection from Lauchringen . In Stühlingen, the so-called “ Wutach Valley Railway ” had also reached its provisional end point, until the line was extended to neighboring Weizen a year later . In 1890 the Wutach Valley Railway was connected to the Black Forest Railway near Immendingen and thus completed.

The station building in Stühlingen had been designed as a one-story provisional facility since the route opened in 1875. The planning of the southern section to Stühlingen took place in the early days, so the planners saw Stühlingen as a junction for the connection of the planned route Bonndorf in the Black Forest –Weizen – Stühlingen and the Schaffhausen – Schleitheim tram . The railway construction inspection until mid-1875 and the local construction management for the middle wheat-Blumberg section were based in Stühlingen. Today nothing can be seen of the former temporary structure, as all the high-rise buildings and track systems have been dismantled.

Since the idea of a standard gauge connection from Stühlingen to Beringen, which had been emerging since around 1870, as well as the connection to the Schaffhausen – Schleitheim tram and the Bonndorf – Weizen – Stühlingen line, was never realized due to the waning railway boom, Stühlingen never became a railway junction. However, the tram terminus, Oberwiesen-Stühlingen , was located directly at the Germany – Switzerland customs station, about half a kilometer away. It was about a kilometer to the center of Stühlingen.

Daily passenger traffic on the Wutach Valley Railway was finally discontinued on January 1, 1976 for reasons of profitability, so that the only railway line realized here lost its scheduled traffic. The freight for Sto AG was operated until the year 2,001th Despite numerous efforts to reactivate daily passenger traffic, this goal has not yet been implemented.

The Stühlingen station was downgraded from the station to the stopping point around 2004 . The building, which is located west of the train station, was originally used as a residential building for railway employees. Since 2012 it has housed an amusement arcade among other things . Originally there was a garden for the railway employees between the reception and residential building . Both the reception building and the goods hall no longer exist today.

Since December 2013, a midday train has also been running on school days in Baden-Württemberg from Waldshut via Lauchringen to Wutöschingen and back. A year later, on a municipal initiative, this school train was extended to Eggingen , where there is a connection to a bus in the direction of Stühlingen. This means that Stühlingen can also be reached by rail all year round via a shuttle bus .

In the other direction, the shuttle services known as the Weizen pendulum run to the neighboring Weizen to the Museumsbahn Wutachtal e. V.
