history

On September 10, 1894, “ Dr. Wenzel Pretty. Chairman of the local representative of the city of Polička within the city walls and Josef Thanabauer, member of the above local representative and property owner in Polička, the requested concession ... for the construction and operation of a standard-gauge local train from the Zwittau station on the Brno-Prague line of the privileged Austrian- Hungarian State Railway Company to Polička ”. Until the end of the 76th year from the granting of the license, the Austrian state paid interest on the investment capital of 4 percent each and a maximum of 27,406  florins. guaranteed annually. Part of the concession was also the obligation to start construction of the line immediately and to finish it “ within a year and a half ”.

The line was opened on September 15, 1896. The operation was carried out by the kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB) on behalf of the owners.

On May 31, 1897, the local railway Zwittau – Polička received the concession for the continuation of its route from Polička to the Skutsch station of the Austrian Northwest Railway (ÖNWB). This section of the route should also be completed within a year and a half. Part of this concession was also the obligation to combine both parts of the route " into a single company ". The guaranteed annual net income for the entire route has now been increased to 68,606 florins. until September 10, 1970. The line was opened on October 16, 1897.

The share capital of the local railway company Zwittau – Polička , founded on October 1, 1896, totaled 1,524,000 crowns. The company was based in Vienna .

Borová u Poličky station (2014)

The 1912 timetable only recorded one continuous, mixed pair of trains on the Zwittau – Skutsch route and two in the opposite direction. Other trains served the sections Zwittau – Polička and Skutsch Stadt – Skutsch. The trains take around three hours to cover the entire route between Zwittau and Skutsch.

After the First World War, the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD) took over the management of the kkStB. On January 1, 1925, the Zwittau – Polička local railway was nationalized by law and the line was integrated into the ČSD network.

After the Sudetenland became part of Germany in the autumn of 1938, the line between Zwittau and Laubendorf Unterort came to the Deutsche Reichsbahn , Reichsbahndirektion Breslau . The Laubendorf Unterort stop was designated as the border station. The connection was included in the Reich curriculum as KBS 154u Zwittau – Politschka.

On January 1, 1993, the line was transferred to the newly founded České dráhy (ČD) in the course of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia . Since 2003 it has been part of the network of the state infrastructure operator Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC; today: Správa železnic).

Čachnov Railway Station (2016)

On June 24, 1995, a serious railway accident occurred near Krouna zastávka in which 19 people died. A passenger train coming from Žďárec u Skutče collided head-on with three freight wagons that had escaped during shunting work in Čachnov station. At the scene of the accident, a memorial with the names of the victims commemorates the event.

In 2011, the Pardubický kraj, as the responsible authority for local public transport , decided to discontinue regular travel between Pustá Kamenice and Žďárec u Skutče as part of a general optimization. The 2012 annual timetable, valid from December 11, 2011, only recorded two pairs of passenger trains on the weekend on the Pardubice – Borová u Poličky route. Trains between Svitavy and Pustá Kamenice ran every two hours with a few more frequent stops on weekdays and Sundays. The stops Vendolí, Květná, Květná zastávka, Pomezí and Pomezí zastávka were no longer served. From the 2013 annual timetable, the trains stopped again at all stops, and since the 2014 annual timetable there has been daily passenger traffic on the entire route.

In the 2020 annual timetable, passenger trains run between Svitavy and Pustá Kamenice every two hours, with individual trains going to and from Česká Třebová. During rush hour on weekdays, this cycle is condensed to an hourly cycle. There is no longer a fixed cycle on the rest of the route. On weekends there are runs in the Polička – Pardubice-Rosice to Labem route, which are primarily used for tourist traffic. On weekdays, commuter trains run between Polička or Borová u Polič and Žďárec u Skutče. Individual train runs are also tied through over the entire route.
