action

Marie is a sought-after architect who has a happy relationship with Axel, with whom she is raising their six-year-old son Luis. She is in the middle of life, is used to organizing and planning, to function and to have everything under control, both professionally and privately. At a young age she had to take responsibility for her younger and chaotic sister Kerstin. Her parents were always proud of the older Marie, while the younger Kerstin was the family's problem child.

That changed when Marie was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis one day . There is a constant threat of another flare-up , the timing and symptoms of which cannot be predicted. It is only clear that the disease is incurable. With the diagnosis, the conditions in the family change, now it is Marie who worries the parents. While her father Otto withdraws, her mother Edith reacts with exaggerated care. Axel's actually loving consideration also hurts her because she fears that he will no longer see her as the woman he loves, but only as the sick person. And it is difficult for her to explain to her six-year-old son that she can no longer climb with him as before and that she is constantly tired.

Marie can no longer pursue the job as usual, which had fulfilled her very well. Things of everyday life become a challenge, everyday life a balancing act. During this difficult time, of all people, her chaotic sister Kerstin is at her side. Marie discovers new aspects of herself and her sister, and slowly she manages to accept the illness as part of her life.

reception

Wilfried Geldner wrote in the Weser Kurier : “As in Johannes Fabrick's award-winning film The Last Beautiful Day (2011), Julia Koschitz is in top form here too, phases of defiance or even anger seemingly suddenly give way to a yearning for understanding and love. Passing time is skilfully passed through, the difficult letting go of everyday work made understandable. [...] The author Agnes Pluch managed with a light hand to interweave the gradual progression of the disease and the resulting partner and family conflicts. "

Tilmann P. Gangloff from tittelbach.tv found the title to be accurate in every way. Julia Koschitz would embody the main character extremely credibly, who has to find the difficult balance. The script by Agnes Pluch and the implementation by Vivian Naefe would also prove to be a successful balancing act, the drama had surprisingly cheerful moments despite all the tragic potential. “This is all the more remarkable because the director describes the offer to make this film as fateful : her own mother also had MS; she died as a result of the disease when Naefe was eight years old. "

In Germany, 3.85 million people saw the film when it was first broadcast on ZDF , with a market share of 14.5 percent.
