The Balanstraße begins on Rosenheimerplatz / at the Rosenheimerstraße and runs south through the Munich districts of Haidhausen , Giesing and Ramersdorf to the district Fasanengarten . It ends at the Grenzstraße directly on the city limits to the community of Neubiberg in the district of Munich .

description

With the exception of a small section between Rosenheimer Platz and Metzstraße , where it is about 30 m long a one-way street, Balanstraße is passable in both directions, with one lane in each direction. Between Fasangartenstraße and Grenzstraße there is only one lane for both directions.

Almost all of the cycle paths run along it.

history

The road was named in 1880 after the French town of Balan near Sedan in the Ardennes. There the Battle of Sedan (Prussia against France) took place in 1870 , in which regiments of the Bavarian Army took part on Prussia's side. Previously, since 1867, the official designation "Irrenweg" was because of the Munich District Insane Asylum, which had been located there since 1859 (until 1900, since 1919 Salesianum for disadvantaged young people). After several residents had successfully turned against this designation, the name was changed in favor of "glorious memories for the Bavarian army, in particular for the Munich regiments".

Transport links

The Balanstraße stop on the “Mittlerer Ring” serves bus lines 59, 139 and 145. Line 59 crosses Balanstraße. Line 139 comes from Chiemgaustraße (“Mittlerer Ring”) onto Balanstraße heading south and leaves it again at Hochäckerstraße . Line 145 comes from Claudius-Keller-Straße and follows Balanstraße to Fasangartenstraße . Line 54 goes from Orleansstraße to Balanstraße and follows it to Werinherstraße . The associated night bus routes operate slightly differently.
