The Baltrum II is an island supply ship of the shipping company Baltrum-Linie , which is used to supply the island of Baltrum .

history

The Baltrum II was built in 1966 under the construction number 98 at the Julius Diedrich shipyard in Oldersum specifically for island supply. The keel was laid on February 25th and the launch took place in August 1966. The ship was completed in September 1966.

description

The ship is set up for the transport of liquid and dry cargo as well as for the transport of vehicles. Originally it was also possible to transport passengers and their luggage. It has two cargo holds , each twelve meters long , which are closed with smooth hatch covers. Mostly palletized loads are transported in the holds. Vehicles, containers or bulky goods can be transported on the open deck, which is located behind the deckhouse in the bow area . A derrick crane is available for cargo handling . In addition to the holds, the ship is also equipped with two cargo tanks with a total capacity of 43 m³. The cargo tanks were previously used in particular for the transport of heating oil .

In the deckhouse there is a saloon on the main deck that can accommodate up to 20 passengers. Additional passengers found space on the passenger deck in the summer. Because the crew on board has been reduced to two crew members, passengers are no longer allowed to be carried.

The ship from a driven MWM - diesel engine with 316 kW of power. The motor acts on a fixed propeller via a reduction gear .

The predecessor in its name was the Baltrum II from 1935, which is still in use today as Jens Albrecht III . A new island supplier, a RoRo ship, is under construction.
