Balzer Achaz von Platen ( Swedish Baltzar Achates von Platen ; born November 17, 1712 in Stralsund , † October 26, 1782 in Stockholm ) was a Swedish colonel and chief of the "Spens" regiment .

Life

Origin and family

Balzer Achaz was a member of the Pomeranian noble family Platen . His parents were the heir to Drigge and Swedish captain Pribbert Achaz von Platen (1680-1759) and his first wife Eleonore, born von Schwarzer († 1720). In 1751 he married Ulrike Iserhielm (1721–1767), a granddaughter of the Swedish bishop in the diocese of Västerås Matthias Iser (1645–1725). The marriage produced three sons:

Career

Platen began his career in the Swedish army in 1728 as a volunteer in the body regiment "König" on foot . In 1730 he advanced to Fourier and Förare . In 1834 he received his departure from the Swedish service for the first time .

He then entered the service of King Stanislaus I Leszczyński as a cornet , rose to lieutenant and was wounded in the War of Succession while defending Danzig, was taken prisoner by Russia and was brought to Elbing . With the recommendation of King Frederick I , he entered the imperial service and became an adjutant to the future Field Marshal Neübergk . He took part in the fighting on the Rhine . A little later he returned to the Polish service as an adjutant to Stanislaus Leszczyński and became a captain in a dragoons regiment.

As an ensign in the Västmanland Regiment, Platen returned to Swedish service in 1739. He received his promotion to lieutenant and fought in the war in Finland from 1741 to 1742 . He was promoted to captain in 1744, major in 1747 and knight of the Order of the Swords in 1748 .

Platen was naturalized in Sweden in 1751 and introduced to the nobility class of the Swedish knighthood in 1752 (No. 1922). In 1758 he became a lieutenant colonel in the Löwenfeld regiment and rose to become a colonel in the army in 1761. He took part in the Seven Years' War on the Pomeranian theater of war. In 1766 he took over the "Spens" regiment in Stralsund, changed to the same function and in the same year to the Tavastehus regiment. At the coronation of Gustav III. In 1771 he was involved as a standard bearer. In 1772 Platen moved again to the Savolak regiment, but retired from active service in the same year.
