Barbara Babcock (born February 27, 1937 in Pasadena , California or Fort Riley , Kansas ) is an American actress . She received an Emmy in 1981 for her starring role in the Hill Street Police Department .

Life

Her parents were Jadwiga Noskowiak and Conrad Stanton Babcock jr. Her mother, who was born in Chile , had a classical vocal training and played the leading female role in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet in her youth . Although Barbara was born in the United States, she spent part of her childhood in Tokyo , Japan , as her father was a general in the United States Army . According to her own statement, Barbara learned Japanese before she even spoke English . Shortly before the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, she and her mother returned to the USA, to Carmel-by-the-Sea in California, while her father was taken prisoner in Japan for 9 months.

Originally, her greatest dream was to travel to Africa or South America as an explorer , but since she felt this was not feasible, she decided to pursue an acting career. Babcock made her first appearance in a television movie in 1963 in The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis . Since the 1960s she has appeared as a guest actress in numerous television series, including Quincy , Murder is Her Hobby , Remington Steele , Chicago Hope and others. v. a. In Star Trek , she played as Mea III in A Taste of Armageddon (dt. War of the computer ) and as Philana in Plato's Stepchildren . She became popular with a wider audience through her roles in the TV series Dallas , Hill Street Police Station and especially as Dorothy Jennings in Dr. Quinn - known doctor out of passion . For the latter role, she was nominated for an Emmy Award nomination for "Best Supporting Actress", but should have been glad that she did not win him after a short time before at a elephants - Expedition had participated in Africa.

In the cinema she was seen in In a Distant Land and Space Cowboys, among others.

In 1994, People magazine named her one of the 50 most beautiful people in the world.

In 2004 she was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease . Since then she has lived mostly in her parents' former home in Carmel-by-the-Sea, and temporarily in Ireland.
