Barbara Ganz

Barbara "Baba" Ganz (born July 28, 1964 in Schlatt ) is a former Swiss cyclist .

Cycling career

From the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s, Barbara Ganz was the most internationally successful female cyclist in Switzerland. In 1984 she became the Swiss runner-up in road racing, and the following year she finished third. In 1986 she was again national runner-up and finished third in the single pursuit at the UCI Track World Championships in Colorado Springs . At the track world championships in 1988 in Ghent she was runner-up in the single pursuit and in the points race . In the same year she started at the Olympic Games in Seoul and finished 40th in the street race. She finished third in the Swiss Road Championship and won other races, including the Grand Prix Chiasso , the Bern Tour and twice the Hegiberg Tour . In 1993 she became the Swiss road champion.

In addition, Baba Ganz was Swiss champion in the omnium on the track eight times in a row from 1986 to 1993 .

Professional and private

In 1994 Baba Ganz ended her cycling career and trained as a medical masseuse; since then she has been working in her own practice. In 2000 she, who had previously lived in a heterosexual relationship, came out and has been campaigning for the rights of gays and lesbians ever since.
