The Barchetsse is a dead lake in the municipality of Neunforn in the Swiss canton of Thurgau . It is known for its floating islands . The Barchetsee has been a nature reserve in the Canton of Thurgau since 1991 .

History of the name

The Barchetsee takes its name from one made of hemp stalks linen , or the roughened fabric, the fustian or in dialect Barchet is called. The Barchetsee was used to manufacture this fabric. To start the digestion process ( maceration ), the hemp fibers were placed in the lake.

History of origin

Dead body

On December 13, 2007, a body weighted down with a concrete element was found in Lake Barchet. This came from a 27-year-old man, an Egyptian living in Schaffhausen . The cause of death was a gunshot wound . To date, the murder has not been solved.
