Barroselas is a small town in northern Portugal . Since 1998 is here with the SWR Barroselas Metalfest annually one of the biggest heavy metal - music festivals in Portugal instead.

Capareiros was officially mentioned for the first time in 1115. The later first king of Portugal, D. Afonso Henriques , made Capareiros the seat of a district in 1134, which includes today's Barroselas.

In the course of the administrative reforms after the Liberal Revolution of 1822 and the subsequent Miguelistenkrieg , the district of Capareiros, which consisted of only one municipality of the same name, was dissolved and incorporated into the district of Viana do Castelo.

In 1971 the community was renamed after its most important place, Barroselas. In 1987 the place was raised to a small town ( Vila ).

As part of the administrative reorganization in Portugal, the municipality of Barroselas was merged with the municipality of Carvoeiro on September 29, 2013 .

The place has been known nationwide since 1998 for its heavy metal music festival SWR Barroselas Metalfest .

Barroselas was the seat of a community of the same name ( freguesia ) in the district ( concelho ) of Viana do Castelo , in the district of Viana do Castelo , Minho-Lima sub-region . 3919 inhabitants live in the former municipality (as of June 30, 2011).

As part of the administrative reorganization in Portugal, the municipality of Barroselas was merged with the municipality of Carvoeiro on September 29, 2013 to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Barroselas e Carvoeiro . Head office is in Barroselas.

Barroselas is connected to the country's railway network with its Linha do Minho train station .

Via the national road N305-1, Barroselas is connected to the A28 motorway, which is about 5 km away (Neiva or Darque junctions) and the district capital of Viana do Castelo, 14 km to the northwest. The national road N308 ends about 5 km east in Balugães , from where the N204 leads 13 km south to the city of Barcelos .

The public transport system is operated by private bus lines in municipal concession, particularly the car Viação Minho .
