History and population

Bartenberg was first mentioned in a document in 1170 as Bartinberge , the place name being a joined “-berg” owner name from the Bavarian-Old High German personal name Parto. Bartenberg should have been a patio in the 12th century. The Hochdiepoltsberg Rotte only came into being in the second half of the 19th century when several colonists settled in the former Maiergut area. The Reindlmühle is located west of the Aubach. In 1871 the Hochdipoltsberg was parish to Kopfing, the remaining part of Bartenberg was also added to the parish of Kopfing in 1960.

In 1869, 59 people lived in 10 houses in Bartenberg. By 1910 the population rose to 69 people, with the village having grown to 11 buildings. At that time only Catholics lived in the community, the gender ratio was almost balanced. Until 1923, the population of the village continued to increase slightly to 75 people, with the number of buildings remaining the same at 11. This year the statistics also show a subdivision of the Bartenberg district. In addition to the hamlet of Bartenberg with two houses and 14 inhabitants, Bartenberg also included the Rotte Hochdipoltsberg with eight houses and 54 inhabitants and the Kaindlmühle with one building and seven inhabitants. Bartenberg subsequently shrank, whereby in 1951 only 53 people lived in the district and 12 buildings were counted. The desert of Bartenberg had two buildings with nine residents, the hamlet of Hochdipoltsberg eight buildings with 39 residents and the Kaindlmühle two buildings with five residents. In 1971 the place had 13 buildings, whereby the population had increased slightly to 59 people. While the number of houses in Bartenberg and the Kaindlmühle, now known as Reindlmühle, remained the same, the Hochdipoltsberg settlement, now classified as Rotte, comprised nine houses. The population in Bartenberg had risen to 12, and in Reindlmühle it had fallen to three. 44 people lived in Hochdipoltsberg. In 1981, in addition to the previous districts, the individual location Jobst was shown, which, like Bartenberg and Reindlmühle, each comprised two buildings. Hochdipoltsberg still had nine buildings. While 55 people lived in the entire district, Hochdipoltsberg 30, Bartenberg 11, Jobst 10 and Reindlmühle had four inhabitants. In 2001 the district consisted of a total of 17 houses, with 12 buildings with main residences and 20 apartments. The 17 households housed 51 residents. There were also eight agricultural and forestry operations in Bartenberg. In 2011 the village was home to 50 residents.
