Encounters - Intersection ( Intersection ) is an American film drama by Mark Rydell from the year 1994 with Richard Gere and Sharon Stone .
The film is a remake of the classic The Things of Life (original title: Les choses de la vie ) by Claude Sautet with Michel Piccoli and Romy Schneider .

Vincent Eastman has been married to Sally for 16 years, with whom he has a 13-year-old daughter. Both work together as architects in an office. Vincent has an affair with journalist Olivia Marshak.
Sally finds out about her husband's affair. A dispute ensues in which Vincent accuses his wife of “callousness”. He leaves his wife and moves into a hotel.
Sally visits Vincent and wants to win him back, but then backs down. When Vincent is asked to choose between returning to his wife and relationship with Marshak, he dies in a car accident.
Reviews
James Berardinelli wrote on ReelViews that the concept of the film looked "acceptable" until the characters began to "recite" "truly dumb" dialogue. Almost every scene “bursts” with clichés and “melodramatic sentences” that no real person would ever say. Richard Gere is an actor with a limited range, the script demands too much of him. The depictions of Sharon Stone and Lolita Davidovich would lack "intensity" and "consistency". While the portrayal of Stone was "monotonous", Davidovich would play exaggerated.
The lexicon of international films wrote: "An upper-class melodrama determined by superficial psychology - many clichés, predictable development, little tension."

The German Film and Media Evaluation FBW in Wiesbaden awarded the film the title valuable.
Sharon Stone received the 1995 Golden Raspberry for Worst Actress in Intersection and The Specialist .
