Benedict Annon (* 1627 in Como , Italy ; † 6. April 1702 in Kaisersteinbruch , Hungary, today Burgenland) was an Italian stonemason and sculptor of the Baroque .

Life

The Annon (e) family of stonemasons and sculptors worked primarily at Como Cathedral at the beginning of the 16th century .

Apprentice in Kaisersteinbruch

Benedict Annon came to the imperial quarry in 1641 , where master Thomas Ruffini , brother of the incumbent judge Andre Ruffini , hired him as an apprentice . In 1646 he was acquitted . In the course of his journeyman years we find him in the royal free town of Ödenburg in 1653 , in the registration book of the guild it is entered, Benedict Annon, a stonemason, born in Como in Wälschlandt, has deposited registration fee 8 kr, bet fee 2 groschen.

The next stage in his life took him back to Kaisersteinbruch to become master of the brotherhood there. His master Thomas Ruffini had died. Marriage to the former wife of the master

The widow Margaretha Ruffinin, after master stonemason Thomas Ruffini, who had been a neighbor in the quarry, married master Benedict Annon on July 24, 1655. Annon was sworn in court , senior master of the brotherhood and was given lifelong right to live in his house - without paying rent .

In the tax list of 1699 Benedict Annon was entered with a house and a cow.

death

Annon died on April 6, 1702 at the age of 75. After his death the house was sold “ ex officio ” to the stonemason journeyman Martin Wolf because of high debts .

progeny

Daughter Rosina married the Kaisersteinbruch journeyman, Ambrosius Hutter, on February 13, 1718. Son Johannes Annon married Maria N. With the master Joseph Annon , the third generation, the name Annon ended in Kaisersteinbruch around 1780.
