Benito Cocchi (born November 5, 1934 in Minerbio , Province of Bologna , † May 5, 2016 in Bologna ) was Archbishop of Modena-Nonantola .

Life

On March 14, 1959, Benito Cocchi was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Bologna .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on December 12, 1974 titular bishop of Zaraï and auxiliary bishop in Bologna. The Archbishop of Bologna, Antonio Cardinal Poma , donated him episcopal ordination on January 6, 1975; Co- consecrators were Marco Cé , auxiliary bishop in Bologna, and Luigi Dardani , bishop of Imola .

On May 22, 1982, John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Parma-Fontevivo and on April 12, 1996 he was appointed Archbishop of Modena-Nonantola. There he was introduced into office on June 9 of the same year. In 1995 Cocchi was appointed to the Executive Committee of Caritas Italy, which he chaired from December 1997 to May 2003. He was also Vice President of the Bishops' Conference of Emilia-Romagna .

On January 27, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI. his resignation request submitted for reasons of age. He then moved to Bologna, where he died in May 2016 after a brief illness.
