Benjamin-Gunnar Cohrs (born September 21, 1965 in Hameln ) is a German conductor, musician, music researcher and publicist.

education

Cohrs made his debut in 1984 as a conductor with the orchestra of the youth music school in Hameln, where he received his first musical training in the subjects of flute, piano and composition since 1972. He then founded the Hameln Youth String Orchestra, which performed works from the string and chamber orchestra repertoire under his direction until 1990. From 1986 to 1989 Cohrs studied conducting with Nicola Samale in Rome; from 1989 to 1994 at the Hochschule für Künste Bremen concert conducting with Hans Joachim Kauffmann , flute with Susanne Meier and singing with Hidenori Komatsu . His examination concert, which included works by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy , Jean Sibelius and Frank Martin, the Bremen premiere of the 5th Symphony by Ralph Vaughan Williams , was recorded by Radio Bremen and broadcast several times. On November 6, 2000, Cohrs made his international concert debut as a conductor with the Russian National Orchestra in the great hall of the Moscow Conservatory . Since 1996 Cohrs has been writing and moderating programs and features for Radio Bremen, SWR, WDR. As a cultural journalist and academic author, he works for the daily press, internet magazines, specialist journals, organizers and CD companies. From 1995 to 2012 Cohrs worked on the Bruckner Complete Edition at the Musikwissenschaftlichen Verlag Wien. There he submitted, among other things, a new edition of the 9th Symphony in D minor, a study volume on the Scherzo and the revision report. He was best known as a Bruckner researcher. From 1986 to 2008 he worked as a team with Nicola Samale in the development of the performance version of the unfinished final movement of the 9th Symphony in D minor by Anton Bruckner; a revised new edition appeared in summer 2008. For the academic series Musik-Concepts he compiled the triple issue 120/121/122 on behalf of the former editors Heinz-Klaus Metzger and Rainer Riehn ( Bruckner's Ninth in Purgatory of Reception , Munich 2003).
