Benjamin Voigt (born March 19, 1982 in Schongau ) is a German ice hockey goalkeeper who was last active for the Herner EV in the league until his retirement in the 2014-15 season .
Career
Benjamin Voigt played from the 1999/00 season for the Augsburg Panthers in the German Ice Hockey League . In the summer of 2000 he moved to the 2nd Bundesliga , where he played for SC Bietigheim-Bissingen from then on . There he made his first 29 appearances in the second highest German league and conceded an average of 3.07 goals per game. As a result, he joined the Krefeld Penguins for the 2001/02 season , where he was used ten times. His contract in Krefeld was not renewed at the end of the season. In the following three seasons Voigt went on the ice for several clubs in the DEL, the 2nd Bundesliga and the Oberliga, including the EC Bad Tölz , the Nürnberg Ice Tigers , the EV Landshut , the Hamburg Freezers , the EC Peiting , and again the Augsburgers Panther and the EHC Bayreuth .
During the 2005/06 season he moved from the then insolvent EHC Bayreuth to the Hanover Indians , where he was one of the best goalkeepers in the league despite only seven appearances with an average goal against 2.14. Nevertheless, he left the Indians again at the end of the season and returned to the 2nd Bundesliga, where he was now under contract as the second goalkeeper at the Moskitos Essen . At the same time he played several games for the DEG Metro Stars in the DEL in the same season . When he moved to 1. EV Weiden in the summer of 2007 , he was the first goalkeeper there for the first time in his career. In the following years he completed a total of 46 league games. After the club ran into financial difficulties at the end of the 2007/08 season and withdrew from the league during the summer break, Voigt joined league rivals Hannover Indians, for whom he was already active during the 2005/06 season.
With the Indians, he was promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga in the 2008/09 season after winning the final series against the Red Devils Bad Nauheim . After the main round, Voigt was the third best goalkeeper in the league with an average of 2.80 conceded goals behind Stefan Vajs and Oliver Häusler . In the subsequent play-offs he was able to improve further and reduce his average goals against 2.50 goals per game. He was the best goalie of the play-offs 2008/09. After he was only the substitute goalkeeper for the Indians in the 2009/10 season , he left the club in late January 2010 and joined the upper division EHC Dortmund . From June 2010 to the beginning of 2013 he played for Dortmund's league rivals, the Hammer Eisbären before moving to Herner EV at the end of January 2013 . There he played the season to the end and spent two more seasons until he hung up his skates at the end of the 2014-15 season.
