Benoît Bertrand

Benoît Bertrand (born June 1, 1960 in Nantes ) is a French clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Mende .

Life

Benoît Bertrand first took up a degree in pharmacy and obtained a diploma in pathology in 1983 . From 1986 to 1991 he studied at the French Pontifical Seminary in Rome and received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Nantes on June 29, 1991 .

After his ordination he stayed for another year as a seminary priest in Rome, where he studied at the Pontifical Institute John Paul II for Studies on Marriage and Family . From 1992 to 1994 he was a student chaplain in Nantes. In 1995 he was at the Lateran University to Dr. theol. PhD . From 1994 to 1996 he taught at the interdiocesan seminary in Angers and then until 2004 at the interdiocesan seminary in Nantes. He led this seminar from 2004 to 2010 as Regens . Since 2010 he has been Vicar General of the Diocese of Nantes.

Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Mende on January 17, 2019. The Archbishop of Montpellier , Pierre-Marie Carré , gave him episcopal ordination on March 3rd of the same year. Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Luçon , François Jacolin , and the Bishop of Nantes, Jean-Paul James .
