Bent Norup

Bent Norup (born November 7, 1936 in Hobro , Denmark , † May 7, 2007 in Udsholt Strand) was a Danish opera singer in the subject of the hero baritone .

Life

Norup took private singing lessons during a bank apprenticeship in Copenhagen . He then had his voice trained with Karl Schmitt-Walther in Munich and Herta Sperber in New York City . Before singing as a soloist at the Royal Theater in Copenhagen between 1969 and 1975 , he was a member of the choir at the same house. Further engagements took him to Braunschweig , Nuremberg and Hanover . In 1994 he returned to Copenhagen.

In 1983 he stepped in for the sick Siegmund Nimsgern in Bayreuth and interpreted the role of Wanderer ( Siegfried ) under Georg Solti . In the same year he also gave the Gunther ( Götterdämmerung ), but received rather reserved reviews. Nevertheless, Norup made a name for himself primarily as a Wagner singer. In Vienna , Hamburg , Liège and Madrid he appeared in the title role of the Flying Dutchman , in London and Bordeaux he sang Kurwenal ( Tristan und Isolde ). He could be heard as Klingsor ( Parsifal ) in his homeland, in Copenhagen and Aarhus .

His repertoire also included works by Verdi , Bizet , Debussy , Puccini , Britten and Shostakovich . In total he sang about a hundred different roles on eighty different stages.

In 1995, Norup was made a Knight of the Dannebrog Order for his services .
