history

There is still no precise information about the early history of Nussberg Castle, the only thing that is certain is that it was the seat of the Lords of Nussbach, first mentioned in 1125. These were ministerials of the Counts von Bogen and named themselves after their court in Nussbach, today's Altnussberg. From 1194, the ministerial family changed their name from Nussbach to Nussberg, and it is very likely that the name change was related to the construction of the hilltop castle between 1174 and 1194 and the family's move to Nussberg Castle. It was not until half a century later, in 1255, that Nussberg Castle was mentioned in documents for the first time.

The castle was later sold to the Lords of Degenberg , in 1310 Konrad von Nussberg left the castle and built Neunussberg Castle . During the uprising of the Bavarian Forest Knights from 1468 to 1469 against the policy of Archduke Albrecht IV of Bavaria , the so-called Böckler War , Hans von Degenberg was one of the leaders of the Böckler League. Therefore the castle was set on fire and razed after the handover by the castle captain Ratzko von Rayol . From 1983 the castle was partly rebuilt.

Today the site is listed as a monument D-2-76-122-10 “Altnußberg castle ruins, remains of walls, quarry stone, last quarter of the 12th century, rising masonry reconstructed in the 1980s”, and as a ground monument D-2-6943-0001 “Archaeological Findings and finds from the Middle Ages in the area of the abandoned Altnussberg Castle ”recorded by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation .
