Berlin – Leipzig

Berlin – Leipzig was a one-day cycle race in Germany and from 1949 an amateur classic in the GDR . It led from Berlin to Leipzig .

The race was held for the first time in 1920. It did not take place between 1942 and 1948 and was resumed in 1949. In 1958 the 30th edition took place and in 1985 the 43rd edition took place. This means that even after 1949 the race was not held every year.

The race was mostly driven at the beginning of the season in April and was therefore also called the Easter trip . It was used several times as a qualifying race to identify the Friedensfahrt team.

route

The length of the route varied. So were z. B. traveled 175 kilometers in 1924, 163 kilometers in 1949, 190 kilometers in 1958, 184 kilometers in 1968, 159 kilometers in 1978 and 175 kilometers in 1985. The bike rally Berlin - Leipzig for the big Rotax Prize 1924 started at the Berlin Sports Palace. The route led through Potsdam , Wittenberg , Graefenhainichen , Bitterfeld to the finish at the exhibition center in Leipzig.
