Berlin - world city of theater
Berlin - Weltstadt des Theater was a series of broadcasts on the radio of the GDR , which presented interesting premieres of the East Berlin theaters in over 260 episodes of 60 minutes each from 1962 to 1991 in extensive original sounds and discussions with actors, directors, conductors, scenographers and representatives other trades presented. The editor and interviewer of almost all of these episodes was the Berlin theater critic Dieter Kranz .
History and structure
Medial forerunners for this special radio format for the presentation of theatrical performances are the programs with the RIAS into the theater and Wir go into the theater , initiated by Friedrich Luft in 1952 at RIAS Berlin , which ran until the early 1970s.
In the fifth year of the editorial activity of Dieter Kranz in the program of the Berliner Rundfunk , he succeeded in establishing a fixed series of programs under the title Berlin - Weltstadt des Theater , which further developed this principle by not only presenting one production with scene excerpts had its premiere on the stages of East Berlin, but also related workshop discussions were arranged. These accompanying technical discussions with all theater trades, newly conceived for each performance, formed the special substance of the series.
Interlocutors in over 260 programs were theater greats such as Walter Felsenstein , Ruth Berghaus , Götz Friedrich , Joachim Herz , Harry Kupfer , Christine Mielitz , Tom Schilling , Benno Besson , Adolf Dresen , Wolfgang Heinz , Siegfried Höchst , Alexander Lang , Matthias and Thomas Langhoff , Heiner Müller , George Tabori , Erich Wonder , Manfred Wekwerth , Giorgio Strehler , Christoph Schroth , Friedo Solter and also conductors, scenographers, stage masters, theater sculptors, choreographers, etc. a.
It is thanks to Dieter Kranz's efforts that the Art Union of the FDGB consented to complete audio recordings of the dress rehearsals, of which a maximum of 20 minutes could then be published for radio purposes. Many treasures can be found in these recordings. Manfred Krug, for example, was able to extract the only sound recording for his anthology CD that exists of his guest role as Sporting Live in Götz Friedrich's Porgy and Bess production at the Komische Oper.
