Berlin Games Forum

The Berlin Games Forum (bgf) (from 2005 to 2007 Browser Game Conference (bgc), from 2008 to 2013 Browser Games Forum (bgf)) has been an annual conference for massively multiplayer browser games since 2005 . It serves as a platform for exchanging information on the development and publication of browser games, but is also intended to facilitate communication with neighboring branches of the economy . New technologies and current developments will be presented and discussed in lectures and panel discussions. The organizer is Software & Support Media .

Browser game conference 2005

The first browser game conference took place on September 10, 2005 in Frankfurt am Main in the Bergström Studios with around 100 participants from the industry. It was the world's first specialist conference in the industry in which companies from Germany were developing and leading a market worth several hundred million euros at the time.

The eight lectures on technical, visual, commercial and legal success factors and trends were given by company founders in the industry, the well-known ones include 4Players , Gameforge , IceWars , Travian and X-Wars . The focus was on industry-specific and industry-defining aspects, for example distinguishing features compared to casual games . The keynote on complexity was given by Nils Mitoussis, co-founder of X-Wars, which won the SBG Gold Award this year . The establishment of an industry association was also discussed.

During the event, the winners of the Superbrowsergame 2005 competition were announced.

Browser game conference 2006

The second browser game conference took place on October 7, 2006 in Frankfurt am Main in the CineStar Metropolis. Around 200 trade visitors were present.

In addition to technical and content-related issues, future prospects and growth opportunities in the booming market were considered. The keynote on the success factors of project management, marketing and branding was given by Heiko Hubertz, Managing Director of Bigpoint (until 2007 e-Sport GmbH ), one of the largest and fast-growing companies in the industry. In addition to industry giants, representatives from large companies from neighboring industries such as Jamba! , ProSiebenSat.1 Media and Adobe Inc. , which are active at the interfaces of the industries or across industries and represent relationships.

The award ceremony for the Superbrowsergame 2006 competition took place as part of the event .

Browser game conference 2007

The third browser game conference took place on October 20 and 21, 2007 in Frankfurt am Main in the Westend main building of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University . 245 participants were present. This year the browser games conference was expanded to include a workshop day with a business and a development category.

The focus was on the further development of multimedia and the alignment of browser games between strategy and casual . Representatives from the neighboring MMOG sector such as Sierra Entertainment or Hubert Burda Media and representatives from technological providers such as Microsoft also gave lectures on the Rich Internet Application Framework Silverlight .

The award ceremony for the Superbrowsergame 2007 competition took place as part of the event .

Browser Games Forum 2008

In 2008 the conference was named Browsergames Forum for the first time .

The Browsergames Forum 2008 took place on November 22nd and 23rd, 2008 in the Japan Tower in Frankfurt am Main. A central question this year was the further development of the industry in view of the increased cooperation between larger publishers and smaller development companies.

Browser Games Forum 2009

The Browsergames Forum 2009 took place on November 6th and 7th, 2009 at the Cinestar Metropolis in Frankfurt am Main . Around 400 registered trade visitors were able to take part in 35 lectures and workshops . The number of registrations was 30  percent higher than the previous year.

The event also took place in cooperation with the European Innovative Games Award (EIGA) 2009, which was awarded on the evening of November 6, 2009.

Among other things, Bigpoints Hellblade was the first world premiere at the BGF.

Browser games forum 2010

The Browser Games Forum 2010 took place in Offenbach am Main with 450 participants and 44 lectures and workshops.

The Gardens of Unearthly Delights keynote was given by MMOG pioneer Richard Bartle from the University of Essex. One focus was on social games . Thomas Bleyer (CEO Ravensburger Digital ) for the first time a representative spoke of a great classic publishing house for games through its own browser games strategy.

Browser Games Forum 2011

The browser games forum 2011 took place on November 18 and 19, 2011 in the Capitol in Offenbach am Main.

The keynote The big guns are coming - is the end of independent browser game publishers near? said the well-known US analyst Michael Pachter . The panel discussion that followed was attended by Heiko Hubertz (CEO Bigpoint ), Carsten van Husen (CEO Gameforge AG ), Patrick Streppel (CEO Gamigo AG ), Michael Zillmer (co-founder of InnoGames ) and Markus Büchtelmann (CEO ProSiebenSat.1 Games ) representatives of largest publisher in the industry based in Germany.

This year, the Starter Throphy was presented at the Browser Games Forum , a prize endowed by gamesload with 10,000 euros for innovative browser game concepts.

Browser Games Forum 2012

The Browser Games Forum 2012 took place on November 1st and 2nd in the Capitol in Offenbach am Main, organized by Software & Support Media . For the first time this year, the subtitle of the conference is “Free-to-Play, Online, Mobile, Cross-Platform & Development”.

The thematic focus was mobile and investments . The panel discussion shows that due to the increased pressure from global players in the game industry, some industry companies are relying on different focusing strategies, for example Bigpoint on few but high-quality games on the desktop (core games) or flaregames on mobile games.

Browser Games Forum 2013

The ninth conference took place in Hamburg for the first time as the Browser Games Forum 2013 on October 23 and 24 . The conference was divided into the following categories : browser games: software technology ("Development (Technical)") , browser games: game design , financing and mergers & acquisitions , mobile games: development (technical) , mobile games: game design , monetization , marketing & Promotion and business startups ("start-ups"). The keynote from Click to Tap - Successfully bringing browser games to mobile was given by Ken Go from the US game developer and publisher Kabam . In addition to industry representatives Bigpoint , InnoGames , Gamigo , ProSiebenSat.1 and Goodgame Studios , Konrad Lischka and Google employees spoke about profitable growth, Valve about emerging markets and PricewaterhouseCoopers about mobile payment .
