Bernard Tissier de Mallerais (born September 14, 1945 in Sallanches , Haute-Savoie , France ) is a bishop of the traditionalist Society of St. Pius X.

Life

After completing a university degree in biology , Bernard Tissier de Mallerais acquired a master's degree and entered the seminary of the Society of St. Pius X. (FSSPX) in Friborg in Switzerland in October 1969 . On 29 June 1975 he was in Ecône for ordained priests . There he then worked as a professor, later as rain of the seminar. He then became General Secretary of the FSSPX (1984–1996).

He was ordained bishop on June 30, 1988 with three other priests by the founder of the FSSPX, Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre . Because these ordinations took place against the will of the Pope, Pope John Paul II issued a decree declaring the excommunication of Lefebvre and the four consecrated bishops. On July 28, 1991, he in turn unauthorized ordained the Brazilian priest Licínio Rangel as bishop.

The Society denies the occurrence of excommunication with reference to an allegedly existing church crisis and an allegedly existing church emergency , which is why Bernard Tissier de Mallerais continues to donate sacraments within the FSSPX , especially confirmations , ordinations and the blessings reserved for a bishop.

His duties within the Society of St. Pius X. were from 1979 to 1983 in the direction of the seminary of Ecône. From 1984 to 1996 he was General Secretary of the Brotherhood. From 1996, his main task was to research and document the life of the late Archbishop Marcel Lefebvres. In 2008 he published a biography of the archbishop, written in German.

Tissier de Mallerais designated Pope Benedict XVI. in a newspaper article from December 2008 as a heretic and modernist and rejected any reconciliation with "occupied Rome". Pope Benedict XVI had Bishop Tissier de Mallerais' excommunication lifted on January 21, 2009 by decree of the Congregation of Bishops.

On February 1, 2009, Tissier de Mallerais told the Italian newspaper La Stampa about the upcoming agreement with the Roman Catholic Church: “We are not changing our positions, but we have the intention to convert Rome, that is, Rome to ours To lead positions. "

Tissier de Mallerais has chosen the critical analysis of the declaration of the Second Vatican Council on religious freedom as his special task.
