Bernd Klingner

Bernd Klingner (born January 28, 1940 in Oberlichtenau near Chemnitz ) is a former German marksman.

Klingner began shooting in Bremervörde at the age of 13 under the guidance of his father and took part in the European Championships in Bucharest two years later . In 1959, Klingner became European champion with the small-bore rifle for the first time and the following year he took part in the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome , where he was able to take 19th place. In Mexico 1968 , Klingner became Olympic champion in the small bore three-position competition with 1157 rings.

Four years later at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich he could not withstand the high pressure of expectations and was 16 with 1141 rings. For Montreal 1976 he wanted to qualify again, but failed narrowly to Gottfried Kustermann and Werner Seibold . Klingner ended his competitive career in 1978. The trained businessman has been running a mail order business for sporting weapons and accessories since the early 1970s. He is the author of several textbooks for shooting sports, some of which have also been translated into other languages.
