Bernd Leistner (literary scholar)

Bernd Leistner (born May 3, 1939 in Eibenstock ; † February 27, 2019 in Leipzig ) was a German literary scholar and writer .

Life

Bernd Leistner studied German and history at the University of Leipzig from 1957 to 1962 . From 1962 to 1971 he worked as a teacher for German and history in Mittweida and Leipzig . In 1971 he obtained his doctorate in philosophy in Leipzig. He then worked until 1974 as a lecturer for German studies in Skopje ( Macedonia ).

From 1974 to 1976 he was senior assistant at the German Studies Section at the University of Leipzig and from 1976 to 1988 he was a research assistant at the National Research and Memorial Centers for Classical German Literature in Weimar . In 1982 he completed his habilitation . From 1988 to 1992 he was a lecturer at the "Johannes R. Becher" literary institute in Leipzig, in addition to which he held several visiting professorships at West German universities. From 1992 to 2004 he held the chair for modern German literature at the Technical University of Chemnitz . Last Leistner lived in Leipzig.

In addition to numerous specialist German studies, Bernd Leistner published several volumes of essays , mainly on topics from the field of German classical music .

He was a member of the PEN Center Germany and since 1998 of the Saxon Academy of the Arts . In 1985 he received the Heinrich Mann Prize .
