Origin and family

Kuntze was a son of Georg Kuntze (1776–1864) and Sophie Lehmann (1786–1866). He was born on the Eichwerder manor, which was owned by the Kuntze family from 1803. His younger brother Moritz Kuntze (1819–1880) took over the parental estate in Eichwerder and became a bailiff in the Oberbarnim district . The still preserved grave of the Kuntze family in the Eichwerder cemetery was listed as a historical monument in 2009.

Since 1848 Kuntze was married to Elisabeth Neubart (1825-1910). The son Walter Kuntze (1860–1927) took over the manor Heinrichsdorf from his children, Erich Kuntze (1866–1932) acquired the manor Augstupönen and Ewald Kuntze (1852–1915) became a royal Prussian colonel and married Martha Zarniko (1858–1922) in 1876 , Daughter of the mill owner in Klein Amtsmühle Eduard Zarniko (1825–1903). The daughter Martha Kuntze (1849–1929) became a painter.

Live and act

After completing his education at the Joachimsthalschen Gymnasium in Berlin , Kuntze attended the Royal Prussian Academy of Agriculture founded by Albrecht Daniel Thaer on the Möglin manor and at the end of the 1840s acquired the Heinrichsdorf manor in East Prussia.

From 1855 to 1866, Kuntze was general secretary of the agricultural association in Lithuania and editor of the magazine Georgine, a magazine for agricultural culture .

In 1866 Kuntze was elected to the landscape council in Prussian Lithuania .

Until 1887 he wrote the personal registers for the magazines Prussian Archive , Prussian Provincial Papers and Old Prussian Monthly . This register of persons passed into the possession of the State and University Library in Königsberg in 1903 and was set up for use in the library's reading room.

In 1885 he sold the Heinrichsdorf manor and moved to Berlin, but took over the manor again a few years later. In the 1895 address book, Kuntze is again listed as the owner.
