Bernhard Stern-Szana (born June 13, 1867 in Riga ; died September 20, 1927 in Vienna ) was a versatile German-Baltic - Austrian writer , historian , journalist , correspondent , travel writer , critic , cultural historian and editor of the Neue Wiener Tagblatt . He lived "after long journeys [...] in Vienna, Constantinople , Budapest and again Vienna". He is the author of travel works and cultural images, especially about Russia and Turkey , cultural and moral history and eroticism .

“Bernhard Stern, a young compatriot of ours, has been in his native Riga for a few days. The same has been acting for a long time as the secretary of the poet and art master Count Schock in Munich and, especially last summer, through his writing about King Ludwig the First of Bavaria, as well as through several ingenious features published in the " Berliner Tageblatt " about the Munich art exhibition in made known to other circles. Last year the “Rigasche Zeitung” published several literary articles by him, which were generally found very appealing. Although he is barely 21 years old, Bernhard Stern already has an eventful career behind him. Three years ago he left his home and, trusting only himself and his talent, went out into the wide world. In a surprisingly short time, albeit after bitter effort, he achieved a respected position that opens up prospects for prosperous advancement for the young, ambitious talent of our compatriot. "
