Bernhard von Bassewitz-Levetzow

Bernhard Heinrich Jasper Count von Bassewitz-Levetzow (born April 15, 1846 in Bristow near Schorssow ; † April 8, 1899 there ) was a German majorate and parliamentarian.

Life

Bernhard Graf von Bassewitz-Levetzow came from the old Mecklenburg family Bassewitz . His parents were Karl Graf v. Bassewitz (1821–1873) and Ina von Bülow adH Goldenbow. In 1861 his father inherited the majorat Kläden mit Pertinenzien from his uncle Alexander von Levetzow , which led to the association of names and coats of arms of Bassewitz-Levetzow . One brother was Carl von Bassewitz-Levetzow .

He studied law at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg and the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen . In 1866 he became a member of the Corps Saxo-Borussia Heidelberg . In 1867 he joined the Corps Saxonia Göttingen . After graduating as Dr. jur. at the University of Göttingen and the legal traineeship in Kassel , he joined the 12th Hussar Regiment at the outbreak of the Franco-Prussian War . He remained an active officer until 1883. As a lieutenant a. D. he lived on his majorat Kläden with Darnewitz . He held various municipal offices, including district deputy of the Stendal district and head of office. He was a functionary in the Association of Farmers .

Bassewitz-Levetzow was a member of the Prussian House of Representatives from 1889 to 1899 as a member of the constituency Magdeburg 2 (Osterburg, Stendal) . He belonged to the faction of the Conservative Party . Since August 21, 1876 he was married to Eva Freiin von Kottwitz (born October 11, 1858). The marriage remained childless. He was a legal knight of the Order of St. John .
