Hans Heinrich Friedrich Franz Karl Bernhard Gustav von Hanfstengel (born July 6, 1805 in Bielefeld , † October 27, 1864 in Erfurt ) was a Prussian major general and commander of Erfurt .

Bernhard was a son of Gustav Adolf von Hanfstengel († 1821) and his wife Magdalene Henriette, née von Estorff .

Military career

After visiting the Berlin Cadet House , Hanfstengel was transferred to the 30th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army on April 15, 1823 as a Second Lieutenant . From 1827 to 1830 he was sent to the General War School for further training . This was followed by a command as adjutant in the 30th Landwehr Regiment in 1832/34 . As Prime Lieutenant , Hanfstengel was again in the 30th Landwehr Regiment in 1837/39 and 1840/42, and in the meantime was in command of the Infantry Training Battalion. While being promoted to captain , he was appointed company commander on October 19, 1843 . With the promotion to major , Hanfstengel was appointed commander of the III. Battalion in the 28th Landwehr Regiment transferred to Siegburg . From January 23, 1851 to July 24, 1854 he was commander of the 1st battalion in the 25th Landwehr Regiment and then commander of the 2nd battalion in the 34th Infantry Regiment (2nd Reserve Regiment) . In this position he was promoted to lieutenant colonel in mid-July 1855 . On July 8, 1858, Hanfstengel was appointed commander of Erfurt under position à la suite of the regiment and promoted to colonel on November 22, 1858 .
