Bernhard Erasmus von Jagow (born April 2, 1840 on Gut Calberwisch (today a part of Calberwisch ); † December 22, 1916 there ) was a landowner and Prussian politician.

origin

He came from the old Brandenburg noble family von Jagow , which was first mentioned in a document in 1243 and had been a castle in the Altmark since the 14th century , and was a son of the landowner Eduard Ernst Alexander Leopold von Jagow (1804–1874), landlord of Calberwisch and Uchtenhagen ( both district of Osterburg), and Bernhardine, born von Kalben (1822–1900).

His uncle was Friedrich von Jagow and his grandfather Wilhelm von Jagow . His youngest brother was Ernst von Jagow . Another brother, Eduard Georg von Jagow (* 1850), was married to a daughter of General Ewald Christian Leopold von Kleist (1824–1910).

family

Jagow married Johanna Countess von Pourtalès (1850-1883), the daughter of the landowner Wilhelm Graf von Pourtalès, landlord on Tloskau and others ( Bohemia ), and Charlotte Countess von Maltzan , baroness of Wartenberg, on July 19, 1870 in Berlin and Penzlin. The couple had two sons and three daughters:

  • Charlotte Bernhardine Louise (* 1872) ⚭ 1900 Lippold von Bredow (1869–1924), Herr auf Senzke
  • Klaus Eduard (* 1873), Prussian Second Lieutenant
  • Irmgard Elisabeth (1875-1889)
  • Henning Wilhelm (1877–1916), killed near Vaux before Verdun
  • Dorothea Christine (* 1879)

His second marriage was on November 21, 1886 in Wiesbaden Marie Anna Countess von Stillfried-Rattonitz (1846–1907), daughter of the Prussian Major General Ludwig von Stillfried and Rattonitz (1790–1865) and Luise Freiin von Thermo (1806–1892) . The daughter Johanna (Jenny) Marie Luise (1890–1972) emerged from the marriage and married Karl-Wilhelm Freiherr Geyr von Schweppenburg (1882–1923) in 1912 .

Life

Jagow was a Prussian major , most recently a cavalry captain and squadron chief in the regiment of the Gardes du Corps and landlord on Calberwisch and Uchtenhagen (now part of Walsleben ). In 1875 he had a new mansion built there by the Berlin architect Martin Gropius (1824–1880) and the building clerk forging. In 1995 the mansion was restored as it was completely run down. He was also a knight of honor of the Order of St. John and a member of the Prussian mansion . The deaths of both wives and the death of his son Henning near Verdun on March 11, 1916 were tragic in his life .
