Ludwig Joseph Anton Wilhelm Graf von Stillfried und Rattonitz (born June 6, 1790 in Glatz ; † October 16, 1865 in Potsdam ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Ludwig was the first son of Count Johann Joseph von Stillfried-Rattonitz (1759-1805) and his wife Elisabeth, née Countess von Goetzen (1765-1802), a daughter of the governor of the County of Glatz Friedrich Wilhelm von Götzen .

Military career

Stillfried-Rattonitz visited the Berlin Cadet House and after the Peace of Tilsit was hired on August 18, 1809 as a portepeef ensign in the 2nd Silesian Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army . There he was promoted to secondary lieutenant in September 1811 and took part in the fighting at Eckau , Schlockhof, Garossenkrug and Mesothen during the campaign against Russia the following year .

During the Wars of Liberation Stillfried-Rattonitz fought in the battles near Dannigkow , Colditz, Waldau, Nollendorf, Issy, Soissons and Königswartha. In the battle of Großgörschen he was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir IV class. He was also at Bautzen , Dresden , Kulm and Leipzig . For Paris he was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class. In the campaign of 1815 he fought in the battle of Ligny and Waterloo . On July 13, 1815, Stillfried-Rattonitz was transferred to the headquarters of Field Marshal Blücher , was transferred to the General Staff as Prime Lieutenant at the beginning of October 1815 and from there to the General Command in Saxony on November 1, 1815 .

On November 9, 1817 he became captain of the General Staff of the 14th Division , was from March 1820 for three years in the 5th Division and then in the 12th Division . Stillfried-Rattonitz was to serve in the on July 2, 1825 23rd Infantry Regiment drafted and received on 13 June 1825 the character as a Major . In mid-December 1825 he was assigned to the 38th Infantry Regiment . There Stillfried-Rattonitz received the patent for his rank on June 13, 1828 and was appointed battalion commander on February 6, 1830. On July 1, 1831, he was awarded the Service Cross and on January 18, 1838 with the Order of the Red Eagle, IV class. One year after his promotion to lieutenant colonel, he was assigned to lead the regiment on March 30, 1840. In this capacity Stillfried-Rattonitz was appointed colonel and regimental commander on September 10, 1840 . Under awarding of the character as a major general he was placed on March 13, 1847 board and the prospect of a commander place for disposition . On May 6, 1847, he received an allowance of 500 thalers to his pension. He died in Potsdam on October 16, 1865.

family

Stillfried-Rattonitz married on December 30, 1829 in Lipten Luise Freiin von Thermo (1806-1892), daughter of the district administrator of the Calau district Gustav von Thermo (1762-1835). The couple had six children:

  • Heinrich Georg (1834–1870), Prussian captain, killed at Gravelotte ⚭ Marie von Reichenbach-Goschütz (1843–1915), daughter of the Prussian captain Leopold von Reichenbach-Goschütz (1808–1890)
