Bertha Dörflein-Kahlke

Bertha Dörflein-Kahlke (born February 1, 1875 in Altona , † January 24, 1964 in Felde near Kiel ) was a German painter and lithographer .

Life

Bertha Dörflein-Kahlke was the daughter of the businessman Gustav Dörflein. She studied from 1900 to 1901 at the Hamburg trade school and was then taught from 1901 to 1904 in Munich by Angelo Jank and the impressionist Christian Landenberger . She continued her training from 1905 to 1906 in Paris with Lucien Simon , the main representative of the Breton painting school and the portraitist Jacque Emile Blanche .

After she settled in Altona in 1908, she moved to Kiel in 1913 after marrying the lawyer Johann Kahlke. Artist colleagues who were close to her frequented her house, including Hans Peter Feddersen and Lilli Martius . She also had a close friendship with Frido Witte .

After her house and studio were destroyed in 1944, she moved to Resenis near Felde on Westensee and had been based in Felde since 1959.

Picturesque work

In addition to portraits that were influenced by Angelo Janks and Christian Adam Lanckenberger's portrait style, she painted interiors and landscapes . She has been a master of portrait painting from Kiel since the 1930s .
