The Gossau district was an administrative unit of the Canton of St. Gallen in Switzerland from 1803 to the end of 2002 . Since 2003 he has been part of the St. Gallen constituency .

1803-1831

Since the founding of the canton of St. Gallen in 1803, the Gossau district consisted of the municipalities Bronschhofen , Wil , Zuzwil , Oberbüren , Niederbüren , Niederhelfenschwil , Gossau , Andwil and Waldkirch .

In 1831 the previous Gossau district was divided into the "new" Gossau district and the Wil district. The municipalities of Gossau, Andwil and Waldkirch remained in the Gossau district. From the District Rorschach came Gaiserwaldstrasse and Straubenzellstrasse added.

1831-1918

With the city ​​merger , the municipality of Straubenzell and Tablat were merged with the city ​​of St. Gallen on June 30, 1918 . Straubenzell was thereby removed from the Gossau district and integrated into the St. Gallen district .

1918-2002

The Federal Statistical Office ran the district under FSO no. 1703.
