The Bieber is a 16.3 km long left tributary of the Haune in the western Rhön in the Hessian district of Fulda , Germany .

Regardless of the popular view and other characteristic data, it is managed as a tributary of the significantly smaller Traisbach es ( see below ) in the water station. According to this view, its length is reduced to 15.8 km and its catchment area from 41.559 km² to 26.972 km².

course

The Bieber rises south of the Sternküppels ( 624.2  m above sea  level ) in the Rhön ( Milseburger Kuppenrhön , near the interface to the Wasserkuppenrhön ) on the edge of the municipality of Poppenhausen . After only about 300 meters in a northerly direction, it enters the municipal area of Hofbieber , which it will not leave until the mouth.

Only a little below the hamlet of Steinwand-Hintereselsbrunn, the stream flows in a north-westerly direction just below the Sternsküppelgipfel. Another source stream flows into the Bieber here. This small spring stream runs southeast and south, also just below the Sternsküppelgipfels. Here it flows through the beaver pond.

The Bieber continues to flow in a north-westerly direction, south-west of the Sternsküppel and past the Milseburg ( 835.2  m above sea  level ). Then it crosses Kleinsassen and the hamlet of Schackau before it adopts a more westerly direction of flow. The stream then passes the Kugelberg ( 505.1  m above sea  level ), a southern branch of the Hessenliede ( 517.7  m above sea  level ) on the right. You will also pass the villages of Langenbieber , Niederbieber and Wiesen .

A little below meadows, at the hamlet of Mittelberg , the Bieber flows together with the much shorter Traisbach (see below), only to flow into Haune 400 meters further . The only place on the Traisbach other than the mouth of Mittelberg is Traisbach .

Tributaries

Apart from the Traisbach (DGKZ 4264; 4.7 km, 14.553 km²), the Bieber has no major tributaries (until it converges with the latter 15.8 km, 26.972 km²). Both partial streams differ significantly in their structure. While the Bieber is fed by short streams like a herringbone on both sides, the subsystem of the Traisbach branches out in a fan shape towards the northeast.
