The Big Blue River (English for "big blue river") is the left source river of the Driftwood River in the US state of Indiana . The approximately 135 km long river drains an area of ​​1552 km².

The Big Blue River has its source in Henry County northeast of New Castle . It is dammed on the upper reaches of the Summit Lake Reservoir . Summit Lake State Park is located on the shores of the 3.2 km² lake . The river flows in a predominantly southwestern direction through Rush , Hancock , Shelby, and Johnson counties . The towns of New Castle and Shelbyville and the towns of Knightstown, Carthage, Morristown and Edinburgh are on the river . West of Edinburgh, the Big Blue River finally meets the Sugar Creek, which runs further west, and joins it to form the Driftwood River. The main tributaries are Little Blue River from the left and Brandywine Creek from the right.
