Abu Ameenah Bilal Philips (* 1947 in Kingston , Jamaica as Dennis Bradley Philips ) is an Islamist preacher and author. He is considered a homophobic and fundamentalist hate preacher .

education

Bilal Philips grew up in Canada and converted to Islam in 1972. He is active as a televangelist for Islamic religion while using media channels, mainly fundamentalist preacher for proselytizing used.

The American association of Muslims Islam tomorrow publishes a biography of Bilal Philips, after which he obtained a diploma in Arabic and a Bachelor of Arts from the College of Islamic Disciplines (Usul ad-Deen) at the Islamic University of Medina in 1979. Following the Islam Tomorrow biography, Philips graduated from the University of Riyadh from the College of Education with a Masters in Islamic Theology in 1985. In 1994 he obtained a Ph.D. at the University of Wales in Islamic Theology .

activities

Philips taught "Islamic Education" for ten years, a. a. at the Manaret Riyadh High School , Arabic at private schools in Riyadh and three years at the “Shariff Kabunsuan Islamic University” in the city of Cotabato in Mindanao ( Philippines ).

In 1993, during the Second Gulf War , Philips was working on a project to help US soldiers convert to Islam. Investigations by the FBI led to his call on converts to fight in the Bosnian War in the 1990s .

In 1994, Philips founded and managed the Islamic Information Center in Dubai , which deals with the multimedia dissemination of the Islamic religion. He founded the Islamic Online University , which offers an e-learning course in cooperation with the Om Durman University for Islam in Omdurman ( Sudan ), which can be completed with a Bachelor of Arts in Islamic Studies (BAIS).

In the foreword of one of his books electronically distributed in excerpts by the Cooperative Bureau for Islamic Missionary Work among Foreigners in Rauda (Saudi Arabia) , Bilal Philips also referred to himself as a professor at the American University in the United Arab Emirates in 2007 , which does not exist under this name ; possibly the American University in Dubai (AUD) or the American Intercontinental University (AIU) in Dubai.

In Mumbai (formerly Bombay , India ), Philips regularly gives lectures for the Islamic Research Foundation . This also distributes video recordings of Philips' lectures.

In the monthly IS propaganda magazine Dabiq , IS called on its supporters to kill Philips and the German Salafist preacher Pierre Vogel. The reason given was that they were apostates who had "accepted the comforts of the western world and a peaceful life in the lands of the oldest enemies of Islam".

Positions

His students include the life sentence terrorist Ali Al-Timimi , who is said to have attended Philips' seminars in Saudi Arabia and received a letter from him in 2004 for his financial, moral and political support . One of Al-Timimi's positions is that Shiites - at least in Islamic states - because they are not Sunnis , should be killed (quote: lopped off, cut their necks ).

Following allegations broadcast by Channel 4 in the UK that Bilal Philips represents a radical Wahhabi school of Islam, Philips refers in one of his numerous YouTube videos to his training in Wales in the UK. In the same video - with regard to the founder of a religion - he takes a position on the question of the delimitation of marriages from adolescents , sex among minors and pedophilia as well as the validity of legal principles from a territorial-legislative perspective.

Criticism and entry bans

Bilal Philips is not allowed to travel to the USA (as of 2009) . In Germany, he is criticized as a hate preacher because he describes homosexuality and transgender as corrupt activities that - according to Bilal Philips - threatened families. After the LSVD announced protests, he canceled an appearance in Berlin's Al-Nur mosque for scheduling reasons. In a parliamentary question, Volker Beck asked the federal government to block him from entering the Schengen area. The news ticker Queer reports that in 2007 Philips was also banned from entering Australia , as the government there classified it as a national security risk . He did not get an Australian visa when he tried to speak at an Islamic conference in Melbourne . A spokeswoman for the Berlin Senate said in June 2009 that, according to her information, he was not coming to Germany. In April 2011, however, he appeared as a speaker with Pierre Vogel at a demonstration in Frankfurt am Main . The Federal Ministry of the Interior previously had no knowledge of his entry. After the rally, Philips was expelled from the Frankfurt immigration authorities and followed their requirement to leave Germany within three days.
