William Redfield

William "Billie" Henry Redfield (born January 26, 1927 in New York City , USA, † August 17, 1976 there ) was an American actor .

Life

Redfield's career began on Broadway in 1938 in the play Our Town . As a founding member of the famous New York drama workshop The Actors Studio , he has appeared in productions such as A Man for All Seasons , Hamlet and Out of This World .

One of his most famous film roles was that of the patient Dale Harding in Miloš Forman's One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest from 1975. He also appeared in numerous television productions, for example in the series Männerwirtschaft as Floyd , younger brother of Tony Randall's character Felix Unger , in Merciless City or in Young and Passionate - How life works .

As the author of the book Letters from an Actor , he describes his work in the 1964 international stage production of Hamlet with Sir John Gielgud as director and Richard Burton as leading actor.

Redfield was diagnosed with leukemia while filming One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest . He died on August 17, 1976, a few months after the Oscar- winning film was released.
