history
Birkenhügel was created on February 28, 1923 through the merger of the towns of Lerchenhügel and Pirk . Until 1918 the area of the community belonged to the Principality of Reuss younger line .
First documentary mention of the places after Kahl:
Birch Hill: 1708, Lark Hill: 1708, Pirk: 1441.
Since June 18, 1994, the municipality of Birkenhügel belonged to the Saale-Rennsteig administrative community . As part of the Thuringia regional reform in 2018 and 2019 , the administrative community was dissolved on January 1, 2019, the member communities merged to form the community of Rosenthal am Rennsteig .
